Dr. Mark Calabria discussed the importance of consumer protection in the appraisal process, emphasizing the need for transparency and safeguards to prevent families from buying properties that are already underwater. He also expressed concern about the GSEs' attempts to minimize the use of appraisals and undermine their independence. Mark suggested that the new administration would likely reverse the previous administration's attempts to reduce the use of appraisals and appraiser independence.
